  36. A)  SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS…

  38. FontDisplay™ 5.4.4c and FontDisplay™ DEMO 5.4.4c require a Macintosh Plus (or later) running System 4.0 (or later). Neither will run under System 7.x YET ( FontDisplay™ PRO should be out sometime around Summer of 1992).

  44. B)  INSTALLATION  INSTRUCTIONS…

  46. FontDisplay is an application for the Macintosh.
  47.  
  48. Copy FontDisplay and its DEMO onto your hard disk or onto a ‘bootable’ floppy disk. To open FontDisplay, double-click on the FontDisplay icon.

  50. If you are using a Macintosh with the pre-Mac Plus keyboard and keypad, copy the Key Layout file into your System Folder of your hard disk or boot floppy disk. This version contains the layout for that keyboard.

If you are using pre-System 4.1 software which does not come with a Key Layout file, copy the Key Layout file that we have furnished on the floppy disk into your System Folder of your hard disk or ‘bootable’ floppy disk. This file is necessary in order to use FontDisplay’s keyboard layout display.

  58. C)  DOCUMENTATION IS IN THE FORM OF AN EXTERNAL MACWRITE FILE…

The documentation is called FD 5.4.4c Doc-MacWrite/ImageWtr. It is a MacWrite file and uses the standard ImageWriter Geneva font so that most (if not all) word processors can read it. We encourage you to import it into your favorite word processing program. There is no table of contents or index – both will be wasted if you export the document into another word processing program. Page breaks have been kept to a bare minimum. There is no hyphenation.

  66. D)  CREATE YOUR OWN INSTRUCTION MANUAL ON PAPER…

  68. We suggest you either keep this file in your favorite word processor file format or in paper format, or both. Here are some basic printing instructions:

  70. IMAGEWRITER PRINTING: be sure the Chooser setup, Page Setup, and Print settings are as you want them. Test out two pages before printing the entire document.

LASERWRITER PRINTING: if you want to use ‘font substitution’, make sure that the Page Setup ‘Font Substitution?’ is checked. In MacWrite II under Edit ‘Preferences’, fractional widths must not be checked for font substitution to work properly. The printer should substitute Helvetica for Geneva. Check to see that the Chooser setup, Page Setup, and Print settings are satisfactory. Before printing, test the first two pages to see that the document is printing to your satisfaction before printing the rest of the document.

If you don’t want to use ‘font substitution’, change the Geneva font to a laser font of your choice. In MacWrite II, the font of the footer must be changed separately from the rest of the document; under Edit ‘Preferences’, fractional widths should be checked. Print two test pages. Make sure all the settings are the way you want them before printing the entire document.
